How to take screenshots on a Mac or PC

When you encounter an issue in Pike 13, a screenshot is often the fastest way for our Help Desk to understand what you’re seeing. Whether it’s an error message or a formatting glitch, seeing what you see helps us get to the bottom of the problem much faster.

Windows PC

    • Entire Screen: Press the Print Screen key (usually labeled PrtScn or PrtSc) to capture the entire screen. The screenshot will be saved to your clipboard.
    • Selected Portion: Press Windows + Shift + S to open the Snip & Sketch tool. Drag to select the area you want to capture, and it will be saved to your clipboard.
    • Active Window: Press Alt + Print Screen to capture the active window.

    Mac

    • Entire Screen: Press Shift + Command + 3 to capture the entire screen. The screenshot will appear as a thumbnail in the bottom right corner; click it to edit or save it to your desktop.
    • Selected Portion: Press Shift + Command + 4, then use the crosshair to select the area you want to capture.
    • Window or Menu: Press Shift + Command + 4 + Spacebar, then click the window or menu you want to capture.
    • Touch Bar (MacBook Pro): Press Shift + Command + 6.

Remember, these shortcuts may vary slightly depending on your specific system configuration.
